Myocardial infarction
Definition
The term
myocardial infarction is evolved from word myo mean “muscles” cardium mean
“heart” and infarction mean “tissue death”. This disease is also known as heart
attack.
Causes
·
This is caused due to interruption of blood
supply to a part of heart and as a result heart muscles dye.

Blood clotting in coronary artery may cause
heart attack.
·
This is a medical emergency, and both men and
women are equally affected all over the word.
Symptoms
·
Common symptom of myocardium infarction is chest
pain
·
Symptoms may be in the form of pressure,
squeezing and sensation of tightness.
Result
In most cases, pain radiates from
left arm but may also be radiated from lower jaw, neck, right arm and back.
Consciousness is loosed and sudden death is occurred in myocardial infarction.
Treatment
1. Medicines
Medicines for acute myocardial
infarction include aspirin, sublingual tablet of glyceryl trinitrate.
2. Angioplasty
In angioplasty, narrowed or totally
obstructed blood vessel is widened mechanically.
3. Bypass
surgery
In this surgery, the veins or
arteries from elsewhere source are grafted to the coronary artery in patient’s body for the improvement of blood
supply to the cardinal muscles.
