Excretion in the Planaria
Excretion in the planarian occurs through protonephridium.
Protonephridium
·
It is a network of closed tubules that are
without internal openings.
·
These structures are just like kidney also
called as an ancient kidney.
·
Throughout the body, these branching tubules are
spread and these branches are covered by flame cells.
Flame Cells
·
These cells have a tuft of cilia whose beating
is just like flickering flame that is why they are called flame cells.
·
Interstitial fluid is propelled into tubular
system by beating action of cilia.
·
This tubular system opens into excretory duct,
which opens to the specialized pore called nephridiopore preset at external
side.
Very dilute urine is excreted by fresh water flatworms.
